Day (26th January)
Morning of MASC
KDU students that paticipated in MASC
Malaysian Accounting Students Convention
(MASC), the camp that everyone has been
looking forward to. The event is organised by the University of Malaya
Accounting Club (UMAC) and it has been bringing both private and public
tertiary institutions together from all around Malaysia.
This camp has been talked about several times
by our senior. This year, it was held from 26th to 28th
of January. This is the recap of what happened on the first day of camp.
We started off with registration and
breakfast. After that, we begin our journey to the main venue where all of our
activities were held throughout the camp. The opening ceremony started with a
bang by a spectacular opening gimmick that made everyone stare in awe.
After the ceremony was over, right before we
head for our lunch, we had a short gaming session using ‘Kahoot.com’ and it
brought out the competitive side of every participants. It was then time to
feed our hungry bellies after such a competitive game session.
Lunch time
Once lunch time was over, we proceeded to the
career booths which were around the foyer area of the hall. Companies such as
BDO, Great Eastern, EY, ACCA and etc. opened up booths. After that, we had an
interactive session with the Diamond sponsor of the event.
We also had the founder of Brad Yourself
Agency, Mr. Steve Wee who gave a talk titled ‘My Story: Empowering the Youth’.
After the talk, it was time to get to know our group members by having
ice-breaking games.
After getting to know one another, we had our
first meal with our team members to create a better bond with each other. It
was a wholesome meal.
We gathered together in the main hall after our
dinner to have a quick introduction and briefing for our survival game. This
year’s theme was a mysterious crime investigation. Supper was much needed after
walking around looking for clues.
2nd Day (27th
January 2018)]
2nd Day of MASC
After our much needed breakfast, we had to
look for our group members to go on with our second day.
The first activity was called, Path Of
Ancient. They had this big ‘board map’ on the floor and they gave each group a
dice. It’s a fun game where you have to answer a few questions or play some
games to win.
Later in the
evening we had our first workshop of the event. This intriguing workshop
titled, The Art Of Negotiation was
carried out by Mr. Beh Leong Kee. The workshop was definitely an eye opener for
everyone as we learnt a lot about negotiating.
Next, it’s time for the Forum –
Implementation of GST in Malaysia. This forum definitely changed our
perspectives of things for the better and gave us a better understanding about
GST. We also had 3 Panelists’, Mr.
Alan Chung from Grant Thornton, Mr. Yeoh Cheng Guan from EY, Mrs. Yap Lai Han
from PwC and Mr. Arief Putera Mohd Sharipudin from IRBM.
It was then time for, The KL Adventure,
the activity that we have been waiting. Our journey started from Dataran
Merdeka and we had to only use the LRT to get to our targeted station. Every
station has it owns mission to complete and number of coupons will be given
depending on the difficulty of the task. It was tiring but we had lots of fun
running around KL playing all the station games.
Next was the, Ingenuous Session, we had
to draw a mind map to present our ideas for the 3rd day morning
presentation. The last activity we had for the day was we shared stories among
our group mates where we were given a picture to choose from.
3rd Day (28th
January 2018)
Last day of MASC
As usual, we kicked off our day with
breakfast! The third day was a bit nerve-wrecking for participants as we need
to be presenting.
Just like how groups were named by
Malaysian foods, we need to convince the judges using 4Ps concepts, product,
price, place, promotion on how we will market our product. Not just
presentation, we had small debate session on spontaneous topic. With a sigh of
relief, we head over for lunch! We had spaghetti Bolognese.
After that we went back to the main
hall for closing ceremony. Each group were given hampers, they also announced
the winners for KL adventure and to be proud of! One of our KDU’s student was awarded
with ‘Best Participant Award’. Right after the ceremony we had photography
session and saying goodbyes to the teammates and facilitators, packed our
stuffs and ready to go back home!
