Interwiew on CAT/ACCA Lecturers 2

PAC Club carried out an interview session to interview a few CAT/ACCA lecturers from KDU College. We hope to be the "bridge" of communication between the lecturers & the students.

As we know, the exams are around the corner, and the students must be anxious & we believe they would like to hear some advise from the lecturers. Therefore, PAC Club's Public Relations Department conducted an interview session with the lecturers, mostly questions about examination.
Interview on Mr Laurence Kuek (F2-PT, F5)
  1. The exams are around the corner, what is your advise for the students to study/revise for the exams??
  • Prioritize each paper's key topic areas, create a study plan and stick to it. Your lecturers can help here. Consider creating a study group with course-mates. The objective is to reflect and fine tune what you have learned in a group setting. For e.g. review how you would explain concepts and apply calculation techniques.
  1. In your opinion, what is the technique to answer examination questions?
  • Assuming you have made a decent effort in mastering your subject matter, then time is the enemy during the exam. See the exam as something you rehearse for. In F5, efficient use of time for discursive questions comes from  creating answer plans of key points. For calculation questions, prepare the answer layout first then follow the logical sequence of deriving the final answer in accordance with each calculation type.
  1. What is your forecast for this coming examination (ie. December 2011)?
  •  Examiners have always warned against forecasting questions in up-coming exams. It would be in your best interest to make an effort to cover all topic areas comprehensively.
  1. Many of us are still clueless on our pathway after ACCA. What is your advise to the students??

  • If you are lucky enough to know what your passion in life is, you will probably discover your career path a lot sooner than you think. If the you don't, asking and finding out is perhaps your first step. The accountancy profession today has the breadth and depth to accommodate people of all aspirations. Who knows? You could be the next Tony Fernandes. On a practical note, determine the tops firms (or dream companies) you want to train in. Research their entry requirements, selection criteria and even their interview techniques. Then apply. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your cooperation. The PAC Club's Public Relations Department truly appreciate your help, Mr Laurence.
