On 16th July 2024, the Professional Accountancy Centre (PAC) held the Eco Explorers event, which is a hiking event to give students a chance to have fun before continuing with their studies. This event is being held at Taman Rimba Bukit Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur, and it is from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The event was attended by 11 committee members who organized the whole event and 30 participants who are students from UOW Malaysia Glenmarie. The main purpose of this event is to take the students somewhere where they can do other things rather than fully focus on their studies. It is also a sporting event to maintain student physical health at its optimum.
The event started at 6:30 a.m., with everyone gathered at the atrium for registration and have their breakfast. There was also a short briefing about safety and precautions before hiking. Then we departed from UOW Malaysia Glenmarie at 6:50 am, and the trip took about 30 minutes to arrive at the destination point. After we arrived, as usual, one of the committee’s members ran a headcount to make sure everyone was there. Then we take a picture together with the signature of Bukit Kerinchi before we go to this wide space for a warm-up session. After that, there was a briefing about the trail from the starting point to the top. Then we started our hiking journey at 7:50 a.m.
Warm up session led by Adam
There are five committee members in charge as guidance to make sure nobody is left behind. The first person was the group leader that will lead all of participants, three members were in the middle line with the participants, and the last one who brought the medical kit was behind. The trail was a good one for beginners; it is not too steep or too challenging to hike. However, when we arrived at the first checkpoint, there were two participants who had some health issues and could not make it; therefore, they were sent back to the starting point.
Then, we continue our journey to the next checkpoint, which is our last stop to have a five minute rest, because after that, we will go straight to the top to enjoy the scenery. Even though some of them are already tired, like the proverb says, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." The trail environment was so beautiful. It gives you the vibe of living in a jungle, or you could make a tree house and live with a gorilla. The flora and fauna are also very pleasant. The keeper there knows how to maintain the cleanliness of the trail.
View from the viewpoint
We continued our hike for an hour and a half until we reached the top. At the top, we can see the full view of Kuala Lumpur. It was so wonderful and lovely. The air was truly refreshing, and the view is indescribable. At last, our hard work has paid off. We rested before taking a photo together for like 45 minutes, then we went back down. The trail back down was easier than going up, and it took about an hour to reach the starting point. After we get back, we rest for a bit, and then we do a cool-down exercise.
Last but not least, we listen to the appreciation speech from our event director, Uzair. He thanked us for participating in the event and hope that everybody was doing great during hiking and there were no further injuries. We rode the bus at 11:30 and arrived back at UOW Malaysia at 12:00 pm. For me, it was a joyful and exciting experience to have as a student. It got even better because there are a lot of us, and I can see the participants bonding with each other. I hope events like this will continue for the next year because “adventure is worthwhile.”.
